Review of Me Without You (2001) by Libby M — 16 Jul 2007
With a great soundtrack [including the Clash!], eclectic and alternative clothing array, honest acting and a painfully real storyline, "Me Without You" has all the ear and eyemarks of a good movie, and proves itself with a very true-to-life storyline.
Holly and Marina grow up next door to one another, Holly with a stable homelife and loving Jewish parents, and Marina with a glamorous, neurotic mother and sketchy father. Together as children they are the combined "Harina," best friends forever.
Holly becomes an artistic intellectual with a head for English, while Marina grows up to be gorgeous, experimental, and increasingly destructive. As they age, Marina's manipulative habits intensify, changing the face of their friendship.
Add in the touch-and-go, continual romance between Holly and Marina's super attractive and more rational brother Nat and it all makes for a great watch - painful, but great.
