Review of Me Without You (2001) by Heather H — 16 Aug 2007
I absolutely loved this movie, and the title says it all. Michelle Williams' (Holly)British accent is not the greatest, but it somehow suits the character she's playing, which is this mousy quiet, Jewish girl who is always thought of as plain and ordinary.
This movie was the first time I ever thought Williams was an amazing actress. Anna Friel also does an amazing job as the best friend, Marina, who is all about partying and tries to bring out Holly (Williams) flirty side.
Eventually, the friendship begins to suffer at the hands of all people Kyle MacLachlan, but it's clear the two really have a hard time living without one another. As twenty years pass, you see how they have and in some ways, have not grown up.
Some may see it as just a coming of age story, but in fact it's not. One could easily think this is a friendship that truly has happened, possibly even happened to the viewer. It is evident to see why BAFTA had it as one of it's Best British Film nominees in 2002, because it's well worth it.
I became so emotionally involved with it, that the ending required a box of tissues and I was upset that it was over.
