A solid adaptation of a rather strong book, with quite the right amount of comedy to make it not that heavy. It left me with mixed feelings in the end, because I couldn't understand Will's actions in the movie as much as I did in the book. I understand the critics on this note. If I hadn't read the book, I'd have been quite shocked at the end...and angry.

Still, I think Sam Claflin did a rather fine job. Loved how his facial expressions changed throughout the movie. You could really see him open up an feel cheerful again. Emilia Clarke was amazing as well, she was probably the perfect choice as Lou. Loved her facial expressions and her warm screen presence. Both had great chemistry. Very human.

The movie manages to shift sensitively from laugh-out-loud moments to tear-jerking scenes. It's not perfect, but it's quite efficient. It could have been deeper, but it has enough substance to explore a few moral questions. It does have enough heart though. It might be stereotypical tear jerking material, but t works. The movie reached out to me, I cried and laughed with both leads, every step of the way. So yes - it does have a few strong notes!
