Review of Me Before You (2016) by Kimberly M — 29 Jun 2016
Can we just stop the continuous genuflecting to mediocre men who, when faced with a challenge, choose the easy way out? I'm totally for each person determining her own destiny, especially when it comes to dignity in death, but this movie is a choking hazard, with the only redeaming value in the actors.
What made the story a challenge for 21st-century women? stereotypical girl who allows her boyfriend to walk all over her, who makes poor decisions, who is overly concerned with her silly wardrobe, who is complacent with allowing others to tell her how to think, then.
..then being paired up with the, wait for it... super-gorgeous, OTT smart, athletically brilliant, and wealthy man who wouldn't even look at her if he weren't paralyzed and she weren't poor.
PLEASE. I gagged during every scene, and afterward imagining the young girls being brainwashed by this trash into ogling over men who, without a clear disability, would mistreat them. Now, you know why it was made into a movie: to continue the image of women as lacking intelligence and less than equal to men.
