Me and You and Everyone We Know (2005) Never heard of this movie till I saw it on someone's list here at N/flix. This is a very interesting refreshing unique film. Superficially it?s a pretty simple story.

The story is told in a very unique and intimate manner. Miranda July makes her debut as actress, writer, and director. She had just made big time with Wang's caustic The Center of the World (which she Co Wrote) Me and You and.

. is the story of lonely people trying to connect in the big city in the age of all kinds of ways means to connect, but people still have trouble connecting. The central awkward courtship, between loopy cab driver Christine (played by July) and self-immolating shoe salesman Richard (John Hawkes, known affectionately to HBO subscribers as Sol Star), is fascinating if only for how their respective social backwardness seems to equalize as their acquaintanceship progresses.

The film was shot digitally using a Sony HDW-F900 CineAlta camera. The distinctive score, composed by Michael Andrews, was performed largely on a circuit bent Casio SK-1 sampling keyboard. The film won the Camera de Or at Cannes.

Be sure and read Ebert's review and the one star review here on N/flix by vus 1931956. I am not sure what planet that reviewer is on but its a pedestal far far away from any major city intersection in America and vus 1931956 must lack any imagination or fantasy.

This film really brings poetic sensibilities and vision to film. It is utterly unique. This romance has charm, feeling, and rueful comedy-- I was more intrigued by the things off the main plot like the sexual explorations of Hawkes?s two sons, or the secrets sad, pallid neighbor girl.

Maybe that?s what makes a film an independent film. It suggests a life independent of its being a film. Some of this is reminiscent of disturbing parts of Todd Solondz's "Happiness." And this film keeps being compared to that.

I don?t agree to that it is a completely different type of film that solondz?s film. But July's script tells us the desperate need of the adults in these encounters to connect with somebody, anybody.

While "Happiness" left you unhappy, "Me and You and Everyone We Know" leaves you happy or at least curiously smiling. . I found it a really charming film. This film contains disturbing sexual content .

. four stars. Recommended.
