Review of Me and Orson Welles (2008) by Eric A — 21 Dec 2009
Orson Welles was a visionary, a bully, a genius, a crank, an ocean of sensitivity, and a volcano of egotism. Played by the more than capable Christian McKay, a portrait of the man when he was on the cusp of greatness would make a fascinating film.
This, sadly, is not that movie. Instead, a miscast Zac Efron plays a smug teenager handed the opportunity of a lifetime only to blow it all for a tepid romance with a woman who's definitely too mature for him.
Welles pops in occasionally to deliver inspiration and dispense verbal smackdowns and steal everyone's woman. Largely disappointing but not without possibilities...
