Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) by Donovan M — 05 Jul 2015
ME EARL AND THE DYING GIRL pulls at your heart strings, tie them in a bow, and hangs it around your neck. The movie takes on the tone of the main character Greg's emotions from the beginning. It starts out quirky, almost experimental, then turns reluctantly heartfelt and serious as Greg is faced with dealing with the seriousness of Rachel's Leukemia.
Imagine Wes Anderson directing 'The Fault in Our Stars' after being inspired by 'Perks of Being a Wallflower'. Throw in Earl, who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, for comic relief and 'ME EARL AND THE DYING GIRL' becomes one of the best alternatives to the melee of summer blockbusters fighting for your box office cash.
Compared to other coming of age teen flicks, this one fells the most pure and honest. Worthy of an Extra Large Bucket of Popcorn.
