Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) by David B — 17 Mar 2016
Most movies are sheet cakes. You get one layer. Maybe that layer has some awesome triple buttercream frosting on top, or those uber-addictive sprinkles hidden inside, but it remains flat all the same. Me, Earl , and the Dying Girl is tiramisu. Comedy, drama, quirky indie movie; these labels don't apply here and yet fit perfectly. It's the kind of film that delves so introspectively into its characters that you'll forget the plot, only to have the plot hit you square in the face and force you to rethink its characters. The best movie I missed in 2015, 5 squirrels out of 5. An instant classic.
P.S. I need to stop picking sad movies on airplanes, it's ruining my street cred.
P.P.S. I don't actually have any street cred.
