Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) by Blake B — 08 Apr 2016
Me, and Earl, and the Dying Girl is a clever, heartfelt, heart-wrenching, sort of "coming-of-age" story. The narrative that the film is told through is witty, and very uncommon in the world of cinema today.
It fills you with so much hope, dread, and feel-good moments. The script itself is beautiful, and gleefully relevant, but perhaps, the most powerful moments are the scenes that are filled with deafening silence.
Those moments of time are when you feel most with the characters. You feel their pain, their remorse, their happiness. Those moments on film, are what any filmmaker hopes to achieve, and director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon achieves just that in leaps and bounds.
