Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) by Doctor S — 16 Jun 2016
Pleasingly offbeat story following the 3 titular high schoolers during a 200 day stretch. Funny and sad, with some honestly earned emotional pull during the final quarter. I hope Olivia Cooke as Rachel opens some eyes and doors and we get to see her more in the future.
The sequence when Greg and Earl unknowingly ingest some drugs during the school day is hilarious, especially the closeup camerawork and wailing sound effects when they're walking down the hall. And if you have an affinity for good bad puns, there are dozens of them ripe for revelry during Greg & Earl's homemade foreign film spoofs.
