Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) by Chillindylan G — 07 Jul 2015

I didn't appreciate the way they tried to manufacture an emotional response - to me, it tells me that they weren't good enough to elicit the desired response through the process of the film - so they simply need to lie to the audience, and I don't like false "gotcha" moments. Mann's character was wholly unlikable as well, so I didn't really feel that sorry for him. None of the characters really grew over the 6 month span like you would imagine going through that type of thing. I did think the acting was good, there was a fine balance between humor and emotion for the most part, and it was shot very well.

Grade = 6/10.
