Review of McLintock! (1963) by Ken T — 03 Jun 2011
A misfire of a comedy western with John Wayne as wealthy rancher but all round good guy. He's well liked by most well-rounded individuals, except for those who are not ethically correct - who also happen to be men in power.
He is also met by his estranged wife, who also dislikes him - she prefers the high life of Newport to that of the rougher frontier life. Hijinks and shenanigans aplenty, including a fight that gets everyone muddy.
But the acting isn't stellar, the jokes and situations often lame and the film goes on much too long and despite this, doesn't tie up many of the loose ends! Still the film does look good (when doesn't Arizona look good on film?) and the film is somewhat reminiscent of The Quiet Man in terms of pairing O'Hara and Wayne as a couple at odds.
