Review of McFarland, USA (2015) by Al F — 22 Feb 2015
Yes, it's a sappy, predictable sports story of the underdog succeeding. What's surprising about this movie is the complete lack of profanity, sexuality or violence, the introduction of the plight of the migrant worker family, the trials of a father-daughter relationship, and the redemption of a fallen authority figure.
On a weekend where money and capitalism somehow makes a sick, twisted destructive relationship "romantic" as opposed to being a Criminal Minds episode, it's nice to have options. It's a great family film.
