Review of McFarland, USA (2015) by Alvin Y — 01 Jun 2015
The reason why I'm giving this movie the highest rating that I can give is not because it deserves it, but truly earns it. This is one of the most brutally honest and inspiring anti-sports movie I've seen in a while.
I'm saying anti-sports because this movie is not all about the cross country sports here, but on how bigger do we know the characters and the hard works they had to do to live for the better good.
What I mean is, it shows the most valuable and most important key role in life, which is family and teamwork even in a small town, and the film shows it more honestly with strength that it wants us to believe these are truly somebody from nobody.
Kevin Costner has never been so good in a kind of movie like this, he's more interesting to see him as an actor playing as a loving father, husband, friend, teacher, coach. I say it again, the things that we learned and knew in a sports film cliche, gets most of it here, but little do we know about most of it from where it really came from.
Oh, by the way, McFarland USA is really a city in USA, it's in California, and most if us Americans had never heard of it, and so now you know.
