Review of McFarland, USA (2015) by Troy B — 20 Feb 2015
I happen to know Jim White he is my mothers cousin. I've met him quite a few times and I've heard the story. So, its hard to have a baised opinion. Overall, it is a good inspirational tail and will have you a little teary eyed at the end.
However, I couldn't past all the parts I know weren't true. First of all, Jim wasn't 60 when they moved there, he is 72 now, they had 3 girls and not two, and he didn't have anger problems at previous jobs.
that's just the start. The little details have been given the Hollywood treatment, but the most of the spirit of the movie is correct and again very inspirational. Most people, put into that situation would have probably gotten out of there the first chance they had, but he didn't and he changed a lot of lives because of it.
They're a great family and very lovely people to talk to. go see if and see the impact both sides of the story had on each other.
