Review of McConkey (2013) by Phillip D — 28 Dec 2014
McConkey is a really functional documentary, offering some great looks at the life of one of the sports greatest figures. Unfortunately, Red Bull Media finds a way to over glorify the wrong portions of McConkey's life, choosing to focus on McConkey's extremely lucky and risky lifestyle while downplaying his arguably more important contributions to the mechanics of the sport.
The end result makes this feel more like a Red Bull promo and less like a human drama, a result that seems to highlight the stark waste of McConkey's life and potential.
