Review of Mazes and Monsters (1982) by Brian — 08 Jul 2008
I wish I could give it two ratings, firstly, in terms of a movie, it's awful.
But in terms of hilarity it's totally amazing.
This film embodies that classic "so bad it's good" category.
I was telling someone this last week, that "Gigli" isn't so bad it's good, it's just awful.
This however, with it's not subtle at all message of "PLAYING DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS WILL MAKE YOUR KIDS PSYCHOTICALLY BREAK WITH REALITY AND THEN KILL LENNY FROM LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY.
Oh god, it's totally amazing. I believe this film had a hand in ushering in the whole "D&D WILL MAKE YOUR KIDS KILL THEMSELVES AND EACH OTHER FOR SATAN!" fad which now seems all the more ridiculous considering the advent of magnificently violent video games.
If you want to have a hearty laugh at a silly movie that has bizarre cameos and a lot of hats, (plus the rise and fall of Chris Makepeace, quite possibly the James Dean of 1982), watch this film. Now.
