Review of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) by Ian R — 18 Oct 2015
I found this movie to be far below my expectations. It was such a change in tone and story type from the first film that all of the characters just felt out of place and generic in a weird zombie/post-apocalyptic/sci-fi/action mash-up film.
The film jumped around so much and went for so much sizzle, but it had little to no substance. I thought there was a lack of character development in the story, poor pacing, and poor importance placed on what should have been crucial and emotional story beats.
This film did not take the time to establish its own tale and was a very big disappointment. I really enjoyed the first one, which really makes the disappointment of this sequel sting worse. Added pain in that Giancarlo Esposito was in this film and couldn't add anything great to it.
