Review of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) by Moviefan123 — 19 Sep 2015
I wish I could give this movie an 8.5 because it doesn't deserve a 9 but it's not quite a 8. Oh well. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is a film directed by Wes Ball; starring Dylan O'Brian, Thomas Sangster and Kaya Scodelario.
The film picks up right where the last one ended with the group being taken by mysterious people to a mysterious compound. Okay, let's start with the problems. First off, there is basically no story. It suffers from being a middle entry but also spends most of the time having the characters run around.
While it's fun at first it slowly becomes tedious. You never get to see them spend time and further their characters because every time they stop, the things they talk about try to further the story which doesn't work because the story is a mess.
The story is really just one big plot point which is to take down the evil organization. So, the problems are there is zero story and no character development. Now, on to the good stuff. Dylan O'Brian is once again fantastic as Thomas and so is his supporting cast that features Thomas Sangster and Kaya Scodelario.
Also Ki Hong Lee is fantastic as Mihno. Also the effects are fantastic especially considering it's relatively small $61 million dollar budget. Also, there are many exhilarating and well shot parts that really had me gripping the armrests on my seat.
I definitely liked the ending especially the cliffhanger which has gotten me eager for the final installment. In conclusion, The Scorch Trials doesn't have much in the way of story or character development but makes up for it with wonderful performances and great visuals along with a strong, exciting ending so I'm giving it an 8/10.
