Review of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) by Preston : — 08 Sep 2017
After my decision to read the book first and watch the movie afterwards, I notice that this movie works better as a stand-alone film than a direct adaptation of the YA novel. The action sequences are suspenseful, awesome and tense whilst the actors do their best.
However, compared to its predecessor which was better than other YA-based movies outside of Hunger Games, The Scorch Trials lacks the sense of mystery that made the 2014 hit an enjoyable movie in the first place.
It's a decent movie and I wasn't entirely disappointed but it feels less like a sequel to the first film but more like a post-apocalyptic adventure movie that just happens to have the cast of The Maze Runner in it.
Now I just hope they don't mess up the film adaptation of The Death Cure, which will once again work better as a stand-alone movie rather than a direct adaptation, probably. Still might go read the book, though.
