Review of Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018) by Cole E — 30 Jan 2018

Really liked the first installment, the 2nd was decent and had some shining moments, and the 3rd wrapped it all up well. I would say the first movie is mostly the Glade/Maze, Scorch was a lot of desert, and this one is more urban with the Last City.

They did a good job making the Last City seem unique, and not just some New York ripoff. I think they did most the shooting in Cape Town which had some great locals.The action in this movie is well done, lots of engaging camera angles and plenty of gun shots and explosions to keep things exciting.

The run time was a little long, but I didnt mind it, especially it being the last film of the trilogy. Some things seemed predictable, I wasn't sure if Thomas' blood being the death cure was supposed to be surprising, I thought it was very well hinted throughout, but it still was done well.

The only drawback I could say is that they seemed to be getting saved at the last minute a lot, including the end. It is pretty obvious in these movies, but I think they might have banked on it one too many times in this franchise (Gus Fringe from Breaking Bad always seemed to come save the day).

The ending was pretty sentimental, and the end scenes I thought were well done and encompassed the trilogy well, remember those who died throughout the films (and before, or not seen from other mazes).

I rewatched the first 2 films before seeing this on Saturday, I would recommend anyone seeing this to go back and watch those (since they came out a while ago compared to this movie that was delayed) and those who haven't seen any I would not go see this movie first.
