Review of Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018) by Thomas S — 23 Apr 2018

Fresh from watching this trilogy, I have to say, it has it's good moments and it has it's bad bad moments. Unfortunately we are left with many (many) more bad moments than good ones. The first two movies might not have good, but they were watchable, this on the other hand is not.

The world is overrun by a disease known as "The flare" and we follow Thomas as he not only learns of WCKD but also own past affiliation with them. WCKD are in search of an antidote for "The flare" but their method is somewhat unethical. But don't think about that too much, this movie isn't the type where you need to think, in fact, the more intelligent you are, the less you will enjoy it.

This movie is full of cliches and about an hour longer than it needs to be.

An example of what I don't like about this movie:

Lets look at Jansen, what does his character add ? In the second movie, I understand his role, he is responsible for a research and testing facility, fine. He has contact with Ava. But after Thomas and etc leave that facility, what does this dude actually do? He's always just there 'because he just is'. His whole character in this third movie is to be the villainous tyrant, the evil man. He wants to create his own utopia, but he's just there to be "evil", no other reason. He adds nothing, does nothing, he just written to try and give you (the audience) someone to hate. Character development is basically non existent, sure a few characters have their battles and their morals put the test, but in essence they're the exact same people we met in the first film, except now they're bad asses and they can fight and have marksmanship that exceeds what I assume is WCKD's equivalent of SAS or Spetsnaz. You know, just because.

It's a whole lot of cliches and "right place, right time" scenarios.

Though all things considered, the acting isn't horrible, though a little one dimensional. Given they have a good script to work with though.
