Review of May (2008) by Michael L — 25 Sep 2009
A horror-of-the-personality film, which is honestly something you don't see a lot of these days.
The plot is basic, but manages to skate around being exactly formulaic, and the horror is fairly well balanced with dark comedy, keeping the entire thing from veering off into a farce (though it comes pretty damn close a few times).
The performances are strong, with Bettis being the standout, though it's a little tiring to see Anna Faris once as yet another vapid sexpot. Then again, the movie was made in 2002, and my memory is shoddy, so maybe she was less typecast back then.
