Director Ringo Lam would be a bigger name if all the credit for Hong Kong action cinema wasn't heaped on John Woo. In Maximum Risk he uses his talents to elevate this film to be much better than it would have been, and arguably better than John Woo's attempt at a Van Damme movie.
