Review of Maximum Ride (2016) by Stella M — 03 Sep 2016
I watched this movie, and I really. Really. Wish I hadn't. Much like Ouija, this film felt more like a bunch of teenagers mugging for the camera in Forever 21's fall collection than an actual film.
The editing was choppy and corny. The performances were flat, unbelievable, and dull. Nothing about this film was remarkable. The only reason I gave it two stars is because I felt like the story was-- at times-- palpable.
It moved too fast, and while I'm wary to draw comparisons to the novel, as there are no similarities besides character names and title, I have to. Plots saved for third and fourth installments were shoehorned into the film unceremoniously, and characters there were engaging on paper were indistinguishable on screen.
I spent the first thirty minutes trying to figure out the names of two of the characters-- and I read the entire series. Never in my life have I felt so let down, betrayed, disappointed, and underwhelmed by a film.
If you watch it, wait until it's on netflix. Don't fund another installment in what has the potential to be a long line of disappointments.
