Review of Maximum Overdrive (1986) by Jeff H — 15 Mar 2011
Under different circumstances, Maximum Overdrive would've gotten a 3 1/2. The humor is good, and seeing an ATM machine calling Stephen King an a*shole is hilarious. However, circumstances were that AC/DC DID THE ENTIRE SOUNDTRACK!!! Seeing an ATM machine calling Stephen King an a*shole is great, but it's SPECTACULAR BEYOND BELIEF when it's followed by AC/DC's "Who Made Who" in the credits! Stephen King directed this one, and I really wish he had directed more (Maybe with Alice Cooper? Howzabout Jimi Hendrix?). He plans the entrance of an AC/DC song perfectly, and it makes an awesome scene even awesomer. The trailer makes the movie look kind of frightening, but it's most definitely not. It even has some satire mixed in, with the blurb at the end of the movie saying that a, "Russian 'weather satellite', which happened to be equipped with laser cannons and heat-seeking guided missiles, destroyed the meteor" or something like that. The only question we fans have asking is:
"WHERE'S THE SPECIAL EDITION DVD?!?!?!?!?!".
