Max Steel.

Initial Reaction: A documentary about swords (or not).

Main Characters.

Max McGrath: He was an ordinary kid. He's played by Ben Winchell.

Steel: He's a little alien robot thingy. He's voiced by Josh Brener.

Plot Summary.

Strange things are going on in Max's body and it has nothing to do with hormones or puberty. He's creating some kind of strange energy within his body. He and his mother move back to their original home town.

He then meets up with Steel - who tells Max that he has a super power which needs to be contained. And the company Max's dad work for, has secret that involve an alien invasion.

Max has to get used to his new found power and to find out what really happened to his father.

SCORING.

Main Characters.

I like these two - they work so well together with Max as a guy who just found out just how powerful he can be. And there's Steel, the alien who wants to help, but his memory is shoddy at best. SCORE: 8.

Supporting Cast.

But the rest of the cast is far worse. We've got a girl that's there just for the romance, a bad guy who has very little personality or background to him, and your basic mother. SCORE: 3.

Plot.

This film spends a whole lot of time telling us that Max has powers, and it uses some great special effects to show us those powers. But outside of that, the story is your basic "Our hero has to stop the alien invasion." SCORE: 3.

Originality.

Max and Steel try their best, but this is just another basic superhero film - and there's nothing here to make it stand out in the many, many other films in the genre. SCORE: 2.

Violence Factor.

This film has your standard superhero fights - with the standard mass amount of destruction caused by those fights. SCORE: 4.

Other Moral Issues.

This film shows us how two very different creatures can work together, but the romance between Max and the girl just doesn't work here. SCORE: 5.

Final Score (out of 60): 25 % Score: 41.67%.

Over the past few years, we've seen a whole lot of superhero films. This film does just about everything those films do - and not much more.
