As you've likely heard and will continue to hear, "Max Payne" isn't a thinking man's idea of cinema. But that's not to say it's the dumb type, either. Instead, "Payne" is a movie for those who thrive on character action and have the eye -- and patience -- to recognize the uniform conjunction between the film's visual style and the base material's majestic grit.
If you're ready and willing, that alone will take you away -- as it did me.
