Review of Max Payne (2008) by Thomas D — 18 Jul 2010
From video game to movie, the expectations never seem to get higher for these translations! And there is no reason to ever have any kind of high expectations for Video game movies, because they ALL suck!! Max Payne was no exception.
I don't really know where to begin. Maybe i'll start with Mark Wahlberg's pathetic, watered down, un-enthusiastic acting! I usually really like Wahlberg in most of his flicks. He did a great job in Four Brothers, same with Three Kings! He so half assed this movie! Aside from the acting, the lame story just didn't cut it either.
So we have Payne (Wahlberg) who's family is killed. So we already have to endure another Punisher rip off. Then they try to kind of mix it with Constantine a little bit and it just really doesn't hold together.
It's like using scotch tape to hold some busted pipes together, instead of the universal binder: Duck Tape! The soundtrack wasn't too bad, it was dark and gritty which I liked, but it just wasn't meshed together with a movie that contains any kind of real unique substance! Very predictable and very limited.
I was honestly expecting something way stronger and way more bad ass. Why can't these producers understand, the only video games out there that stand any kind of chance as movies are Zelda, Metroid, WoW, God of War, Metal Gear and maybe, just maybe Assassins Creed.
Almost anything else, ESPECIALLY first person shooters you can forget about. Except maybe Duke Nuke'm! And thats that. Max Payne = 2.0 starz.
