Review of Max Payne (2008) by Kunal S — 13 Dec 2011
Max Payne has some stylish action sequences and cool effects and it also stays relatively faithful to the video game that it's based on in a lot of ways BUT overall it's a pretty standard story wrapped in fancy paper.
No major surprises and boring forthe most part, the movie has a "been there, done that" feel to it with a resolution that largely sets us up for a sequel I'm sure no one is really asking for.
Casting seemed off too. I'm by no means a fan of Marky Mark as it is but to throw in Mila Kunis, Ludacris and Nelly Furtado in what essentially should have been a gritty crime noir? ...Doesn't feel right.
