Review of Max Payne (2008) by Antony G — 01 Oct 2012
Having never played the video game I was going into this movie adaptation rather blind. It wasn't as bad as some have made it out to be with some decent action & special effects. Revenge is always a decent plot to use in any movie & this is what both the game & movie are about. What kept my Interest powering through this bad movie was the mythology coursing through its veins with Norse Mythology being used.
Mark Wahlberg has never been the greatest actor but his limited talents are best suited to this action thriller. He plays Detective Max Payne who is seeking to avenge the murder of his wife & child. He stumbles across a government secret, codenamed Valkyr which gave soldiers the ability to be invincible during battle. Sadly there were terrible side effects & the government pulled the plug. But the Pharmaceutical company responsible for the drug had others plans & started to peddle the drug on the streets of New York. This new evidence soon leads Payne straight to his wife's killer & a little closer to home more than he wishes.
