Review of Max Manus: Man of War (2008) by Aleksander D — 06 Jan 2009
One of the best Norwegian movies I have ever seen. I do not think I have seen any with such Hollywood polish before. It has been criticised for being too conventional and lacking in friction, but sometimes it is good to see a movie where things are a bit black and white.
A thing that strikes me is just how restrained the saboteurs were. Their actions were carefully whetted for military value and needed the go ahead from the allied forces and the Norwegian government in exile. A far cry from what we see in so many conflicts in the world today.
