Review of Max Manus: Man of War (2008) by Alexander A — 10 Feb 2009
I wanted to hate this movie. I sat down in the cinema seat with the preconception that this was yet another overhyped bland Norwegian film. I was wrong. The film is well made in pretty much every aspect, technically and in terms of narrative.
The film follows the Hollywood model to an almost ludicrous extent. Obviously, the filmmakers were aiming for a broad audience, and they've succeeded. Personally though, I didn't find it very interesting.
I do however appreciate that we can make "big" films that can survive financially within our own borders. This is a really incoherent review.
