Actually, I am rather cynical and am not a marine or war lover. but I found this movie to be compelling and dramatic and Max did a great job. it was based on a true story and the filming in the NC mountains makes for interesting topography.
it was not sentimental, it perhaps pandered to all audiences , but so frigging what , it had a dog as its star... and it worked. I loved it. and I mostly like independent films, dark old classics, or European films and Lars Von Trier, Dogme 95 type films----- and that sort of ilk.
.. so call me sentimental, I don't care.
