Review of Maverick (1994) by Richard V — 27 Apr 2009
Nowt wrong with this. Gibson may be delivering his charming, comic schtick in a classically shot Donner Western, so it is unlikely to be anyone's favourite film. Garner, Foster and Gibson all perform with charm and Molina, Greene and Coburn provide light and able relief.
A slight plot, but a frothy, enjoyable experience, with a neat Donner/Gibson/Glover/Lethal Weapon self reference. Cliched Western, with one too many twists at the end maybe, but made with fun.
