James wilby, hugh grant and rupert graves do the lesser known merchatn-ivory 'maurice' well. it is a complex story but it is very emotional and pretty much realistiin its depiction of gay life among the british aristocracy.
they weren't too fond of gay men back then(reference 'wilde' as well). I hope things have changed.
