Review of Matinee (1993) by Eduardo C — 31 Aug 2011
An enjoyable period piece about a teenager who is obsessed with horror movies, set during the Cuban Missile Crisis. John Goodman chews up the scenery as a flamboyant Hitchcockian director, and the teenage leads turn in pretty solid performances.
It's always in danger of running off the rails and it's never quite as fun as it think it is, but still it's something a little different and worth seeing just for its send up of 60s era horror schlock.
