Review of Matchstick Men (2003) by Patrick L — 20 Sep 2013
I've not watched it yet, due to flixster's horrible downloading system which apparently doesn't let it download to my laptop. Boo to flixster. I've fast-forwarded through it on one occasion and it appears as less than appealing...
I finally got to watch the whole film - it was alright but it figures that of all the films to give me as a bonus or free film, flixster would "cheap out" and give me this rather un-entertaining Nicolas Cage film....2/10 or so....I "threw it away", ah well My review follows below:
"Matchstick Men" starts off with two guys who run rigged contest scams and both of them impersonate agents of the law, one of them being being a drug addict with obsessive-compulsive behaviour. The addict meets his daughter for the first time in years and their meeting is awkward and somewhat sweet. She comes to stay with him a while, discovers some of his secrets and badgers him into teaching her how to con other people.
An odd film; it turns out that the addict is a victim of his partner by the end though at the end the addict is in a new relationship and is expecting a baby - apparently the daughter was someone scamming him too. 4/10.
