Review of Match Point (2005) by Ali J — 30 Jul 2009
Not very engaging to begin with, I almost gave up on this film, but the characters became a little more believeable and the narrative a little more complex as the film went on. I found some of the British stereo-typing a bit obvious, and there was little chemistry between either of the main protagonists, Rhys Meyer being positively stilted in his delivery of the tennis pro turned city boy.
However a strong support cast held the film together, and with a cheeky and unexpected twist at the end, it held my interest. Certainly not a Woody Allen classic, but not bad at all. Good sideburn rating: 4/10.
Presence of sartorially elegant men: 8/10 - a whopping score for some luscious on-screen flaunting of some gorgeous suits, and weekend wear from a man usually decked out in doublet and hose and a saucy-looking Hackett model.
..a couple of marks lost for unexciting tennis kit!
