Review of Match Point (2005) by Marilyn A. Hernández A — 22 Sep 2012
To me, "Match Point" defines the word 'subtle.' Allen's screenplay and direction are incredibly low-key and keep the film slowly moving until it hits an explosive finale that's equal parts thriller and dark comedy.
Scarlett Johansson is electrifying in her femme fatale role and Jonathan Rhys Meyers provides a solid, if understated performance. "Match Point" isn't as exciting as you might expect, and for a thriller, it takes a heck of a lot of patience to sit through, but when it gets going, boy does it get going.
