Review of Match Point (2005) by Tristan G — 30 Jul 2009
Plodding for the first hour but picks up in the second half. Even then, Rhys Meyers is oddly limp (no pun intended) in the central, pivotal role. Scarlett Johansson is, shall we say, very watchable. Great cop double act in the final scenes is, in fact, the best part of the film.
A typically twisted Allen tale that would have been improved by cutting half an hour. I'm mystified by the critics' enthusiasm and by Allen's own evaluation that this is among his best films.
