Review of Match Point (2005) by Avid C — 08 Jul 2013
Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic! One of Woody Allen's very best, "Match Point" is brilliant stuff from Allen. Terrific acting, writing, story & last 20 minutes. The cast while it has more of B-list actors(exception of Scarlett Johansson) which doesn't even matter at all anyways, are excellent. Jonathan Rhys Myers is terrific, he stands out to me the most out of the cast. Scarlett Johansson is great (though she can be a good actress, she seems to be at her best in Woody Allen projects). Emily Mortimer (who i've liked as an actor from Shutter Island, Elizabeth, HBO's The Newsroom) is solid. Matthew Goode who's been in some movies i've liked and really seems like a very solid actor for years to come, he's good here.
This was fantastic but those intense yet understated moments near the end put the icing on the cake for me. I really liked this movie, it's one of Allen's best.
