Review of Match Point (2005) by Ken S — 24 Mar 2014
In this sexy drama, a young former tennis pro falls for his friend's fiance, as the same friend's sister falls for him. He eventually dates the sister, and at some point makes love with the friend's fiance, but when she ends it.
..he marries the sister. This marriage seems loveless on his end, but he seems to keep it as her father gives him financial help and a good job. After the engagement of his friend and his fiance ends, The tennis pro meets up with her and they begin an affair.
..which turns his world upside down when she becomes pregnant. He decides that the only way to preserve his family life, is to kill her. It is a pretty solid drama from Woody Allen, who makes a film quite different from most of his work previous.
Maybe it is the setting in London rather than New York, but this felt like it had a fresh new style for the director. I think this may have been the turning point in his career that lead to his current late in life success.
