Review of Match (2014) by Kate H — 03 Jan 2016
Can you tell that this was originally a play? Yes you can but you're too distracted by Patrick Stewart and company to care. Stewart plays Tobi, a celebrated ballet instructor at Juilliard, who meets married couple Mike and Lisa Davis for what he's led to believe as an interview for a thesis that Lisa is writing. There are ulterior motives to the call though and as questions get more and more person, Tobi gets more and more suspicious despite his friendly and eccentric nature. Considering the trailer for the film I was expecting a completely different reason than what was actually the reason and I enjoyed that.
You're watching this movie for Patrick Stewart manly. He is playing this completely out there artsy sort of guy but there is an emotional depth to him beyond this jovial, laid back, personality he presents to the world and you see more and more of that as the film goes on; especially in his scenes with Lisa.
It was great to watch. Emotional at points without getting horrifically sentimental but a very good film overall.
