Review of Masters of the Universe (1987) by Jonathan B — 08 Nov 2007
Once you get past the homoerotic overtones ever-present in all things He-Man related (even the name), and the very cheesy 1980â??s feel to this movie, itâ??s really more fun than you would think. Yes, itâ??s a crappy action movie at heart, but thereâ??s something fun about the set up (weird monsters being fought off in the 1980â??s by an elf, some hairy dud, a hot chick with lazars, and a naked guy with a strangely phallic sword).
As a rule, I canâ??t give anything with Dolph Lundgren in it a good review, so Iâ??ll just say this: Masters of the Universe is as crappy as they come, but you will probably find yourself laughing at a lot of it and sticking around until the end for some unexplainable reason.
The fact that I watched this movie a bunch as a kid probably helps explain why Iâ??m sort of defending it.
