Review of Masters of the Universe (1987) by Nicholas D — 11 Jan 2008
Much better than I thought it'd be. Though, it was radically different from the cartoon. It's obvious that the Star Wars-esque helmets and blaster rifles were there in an attempt to make a children's show look appealing to more mature movie-goers.
Frank Langella was amazing as Skeletor. One of the best villain performances I've ever seen. Dolph Lundgren is, as always, awful. He was the absolute worst part of the movie. Even the last fifteen minutes, which were full of plot holes and just really stupid shit were better than his acting.
Finally, although I enjoyed it, the entire movie makes no sense whatsoever. Their first attempt to free the Sorceress, He-man was killing soldiers left and right. If you gave him five minutes, everybody would've been dead and the entire rest of the movie would've been unnecessary.
