The war for Eternia comes to 80s Earth in a movie that never stops looking amazing and has some great reimagined designs. A lot darker than the cartoon this is at it's heart still for kids and the edgier tone just makes it more interesting. It looks great, it's (often unintentionally) funny and there's plenty of action - it's hard not to love this late 80s classic.
Sure Orco's movie replacement, Gwildor, grates like all hell. Orco didn't? Seeing a young Courtney Cox getting blasted by a flesh eating bacteria more than makes up for it!
Decent performances from everyone here too given the material. And Frank Langella's screamingly camp Skeletor deserves special mention. Getting the power of Grayskull and becoming one of the most powerful beings in the entire universe, he gives himself a gold makeover and one of the biggest hats you've ever seen in your life. Genius!
(Interestingly, the aborted sequel became Van Damme's Cyborg).
