Review of Masters of the Universe (1987) by Yogy I — 04 Oct 2009
Ok so it's panned by the 30+ year old fan boys and maybe rightly so. The original cartoon series had a wealth of mythology that a live action version could and possibly should have borrowed from ( if rumours are true the fanboys will have there way soon enough with a remake ).
I was born at the start of 85, I missed the first wave of he-man however caught the repeats and new adventures of... As a stand alone film I thought and still feel that this movie holds up even if it is held together by cheese.
I loved frank langella as skeletor, I had nightmares for years that his floating vehicle was going to ominously rise over the crest of a road, stalk me and then burn me with his purple electric finger powers!
I guess I was also a typical British kid from the late 80s who loved all things American and he-man, though an Eternian was a perfect example. I remember to this day opening this VHS at Christmas and cowering with fear at the scene from at the end of the credits on boxing day.
Give this film another chance!
