Review of Masterminds (2016) by Al K — 10 Oct 2016
"Masterminds" stars Zach Galafianakis and Kristen Wiig as two Loomis armored car employees who conspire with a third (Owen Wilson) to rob Loomis and split the money three ways. However, Wilson betrays the two and Galafianakis is left in a cat and mouse game with both Interpol and Wilson to escape capture and seek revenge.
While the plot moves the film along nicely, it also suffers from cheap, canned laughs that is not any different from situational humor we've seen in past comedies. Some of the humor feels forced and that characters don't necessarily act like similar situated characters would.
I enjoyed the film for its escapism but that doesn't make it more than middle of the road comedy ------------------------------------------------------- C+.
