Review of Master of the Flying Guillotine (1976) by Robert M — 14 Jul 2010
Hey, what do you know, I actually might say a thing or two about these movies..
.
SHAOLIN SOCCER is absolutey hysterical, a blast to watch. From a pure entertainment perspective it doesn't really get any better. Combines the comedy, sports flick, and kung fu movie into one. I can see myself watching it over and over, it's that good..
.
DETRIOT 9000 isn't at all what I expected, in a good way. Kind of reminds me of "Jackie Brown" a little bit. Basically, two cops investigate a jewel heist amid the racial politics of Detriot in the '70s. Really liked the ending here. Don't expect a standard "blaxploitation" movie, though. It's slower paced and plot driven..

MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE VS. THE ONE-ARMED BOXER to use the full title, just because, is a cool kung fu movie. Half of it is one long tournament pitting one style against another with a lot of fights. Oddly, this part of the movie has basically nothing to do with the flying guillotine or the one-armed boxer. It acts as an introduction to the fighters who will end up joining one of the two sides. The one-armed boxer is our hero and he spends the second half of the movie attempting to evade, and eventually fight, the master of the flying guillotine. Fighting in the movie is both realistic and fantasy, occasionally at the same time. Definitely a must-see for fans of martial arts movies. Don't look for too much plot, character development, or dialouge here, but if you want to see lots of fighting this is it..

Wow, why did I write that much?
